A Real-time Remote Digital Viewfinder Software Application for DSLR Cameras
The increased availability of SDK’s (Software Development Kit) for DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras allows software developers remote access to core camera features, such as focusing, shutter release, and the electronic viewfinder.
Vyoost integrates the electronic viewfinder as part of a remote software application, allowing the photographer to take advantage of new and sophisticated real-time image-processing units; it also allows the photographer to frame, focus, and shoot directly from the application, to help maintain a smooth workflow.
An image-processing unit can bring together all manner of input devices, such as sound equipment, image sources, and control devices, and combine them with a wide variety of software processes: edge detection, convolution, filters, and transforms etc., to create a uniquely modified real-time viewfinder image, thus enhancing the potential for the electronic viewfinder as a powerful and unique framing device.
Extending the real-time image processing capabilities of DSLR cameras, not only allows for the capture of photographic images using a variety of explorative and experimental methods, but also alleviates the need for a good deal of post-processing; maintaining emphasis on the front-end of photographic practice is the key to this project.
